Cumulus' evaporative humidifier is designed for air handling units (AHU) with a short or even no intake path. This humidifier is available in various sizes, allowing the humidification capacity to be flexibly matched to requirements. Evaporative humidification is an energy-efficient humidification method and is suitable for both humidification and adiabatic cooling.

Evaporative humidification atomisation principle

The system consists of a water tank and an integrated spray system with pump, which feeds water to the pads. The heat from the incoming air is used to evaporate the water. This evaporation process cools the air naturally. This cooling effect is also known as adiabatic cooling. At high air velocities, water droplets can be carried along. To prevent this, the air speed can be adjusted or a droplet eliminator can be used. Cumulus therefore recommends a droplet eliminator at speeds above 3.0 m/s.

Precise control

Cumulus' evaporative humidifier requires only limited space, making it suitable for air handling units with a short or even no intake path. Evaporative humidification is also an energy-efficient method of controlling humidity.

The non-combustible fibreglass pads are specifically designed for optimal performance at low pressure. No glue is used during assembly. This makes it possible to use any water type for atomisation. The pads are mounted on a stainless steel frame and can be easily replaced or maintained by pulling them forward.

Energy-efficient

The evaporative humidifier uses atomisation at tap water temperature. Heat from the air causes the evaporation process, with the mist evaporating and creating a cooling adiabatic effect. To compensate for this cooling effect, the central heating system provides a little extra heat. This is considerably more energy-efficient than the electricity required for an electric humidifier. Due to these savings, the investment often pays itself back within a few years.

Legionella safe

Cumulus recommends using a reverse osmosis unit for evaporative humidification, which removes viruses and minerals directly form the water. This prevents atomisation of legionella bacteria and minerals. The evaporation package is VDI 6022 certified by the ILH Berlin (Institut für luft hygiene Berlin). Due to the WaterFresh control, there is no recirculation of the water, keeping the system free of legionella. Moreover, the system is fully cleanable.
